Jones Audio Productions was founded by producer/engineer Michael Jones. Educated at UNCA (BS) and NYU (MMMT), Michael has worked in the audio production industry since 1987. He began his recording career by playing in bands and engineering at studios in North Carolina and New York City.
In 1995 he served as the Radio Officer and 3rd Mate of the Research Vessel Heraclitus for most of that year. While aboard, sailing from Miami to Crete, Greece, he conducted research for his master's thesis on underwater sound recording.
Upon his return to NYC he began to focus on audio post-production, honing his editing, mixing and mastering skills under the tutelage of Stephen Erickson at his studio in Brooklyn . Then in 1999 he spent a month in Cuba as sound recordist for the documentary film Sin Embargo and his love for the genre was forever cemented.
Currently, Michael is the Chief Audio Engineer and Co-Producer of PRI's Afropop Worlwide. He is also currently one of two sound supervisors for Barnwood Builders on the DIY network. From March 2012 - March 2014, he was the Chief Audio Engineer and a Producer for NPR's Latino USA, and assisted in its transition from a half-hour program to a full hour. In addition, he works in the international film and television industry as a location sound recordist & post-production engineer - specializing in documentary films. He was the main sound recordist for Charles Ferguson's film Inside Job, which won the 2011 Oscar for Best Documentary (Feature). He was also the sound recordist for The Queen of Versailles which premiered opening night at the 2012 Sundance Festival and won Lauren Greenfield The U.S. Directing Award for Documentary.

Studio 44 was born in 2012 in Gowanus, Brooklyn and is the production headquarters for PRI's Peabody award winning Afropop Worldwide. With the heroic help of friends - namely the band Honey Hill and members of the Barnwood Builders film crew - we moved the studio in fall 2016 to Sunset Park; where we we now enjoy ample sunlight and Tacos el Branco ;)
